Kitsap Pumas win second preseason game, 3-1 over South Sound FC

BREMERTON, Wash. — The Kitsap Pumas jumped out to a quick lead over South Sound FC on Wednesday, eventually winning their second preseason match of 2016, 3-1. Trialist forward Alcides Thomas scored his third goal of preseason in the third minute.

“It was a good exercise against a very competitive South Sound team,” Pumas head coach Cameron MacDonald said. “The win was another step in the right direction during our preseason preparations.”

South Sound, a member of the Evergreen Premier League Washington, proved to be a worthy adversary for the Pumas. They equalized shortly after going down a goal, putting a ball away in the eighth minute.

From there, it was a hotly contested match.

The Pumas retook the lead in the 15th minute, Jesús Sánchez finishing an excellent through ball from Thomas. In the second half, Sánchez won a penalty kick that the South Sound goalkeeper stopped, quickly diving again to the opposite side to stop the follow-up effort.

Sánchez would eventually score again, though, bringing down a ball at the top of the penalty area in the 85th minute before taking a touch past a defender and slotting a shot inside the far post with his left foot.

The Pumas will be in action again on Saturday, taking on Western Washington University at Bainbridge High School. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. PT as part of Soccer Saturday on Bainbridge, which features the high school junior varsity and varsity matches in the build-up to the Pumas’ third preseason game.
