BREMERTON, Wash. — The Kitsap Pumas finally get to see the pitch at Gordon Field once again after concluding seven consecutive games on the road all across the western United States and Canada, as they take on the Seattle Sounders U23 on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
The Pumas’ most recent stop on the road was up in Calgary for two tough games in a three-day stretch against the Calgary Foothills. The Pumas mustered two scoreless draws on June 24 and 26, gaining two crucial points in a tough environment.
The results between the Pumas and the Foothills created some movement in the PDL Northwest Division table, as the Sounders U23 now sit in first place with 21 points, and Kitsap moved up one spot with seven total points, switching spots with the Portland Timbers U23.
The last time time the Pumas and Sounders U23 met was less than two weeks ago on June 17, when the Sounders took a 2-0 win. The Pumas created chances to score, including a penalty kick early in the second half, but could not find a way to get the ball across the goal line.
However, this time around, the Pumas will be back at home. The Pumas have proven that they can beat the Sounders U23 squad, having done it twice already this season, each by scores of 1-0.
In fact, the rest of the Pumas’ regular-season games will be at home this year, with three more PDL match-ups at Gordon Field after the Sounders game. It is a critical point in the season where the Pumas can pick up some much-needed points, as playoffs loom and the season comes to a close.
