Kitsap Soccer Club has announced the signing of defensive midfielder Nico D’Amato and goalkeeper Paul-Andre’ Guerin for the 2017 National Premier Soccer League season.
The new signings all played for Cal State Fullerton in 2016.
D’Amato, a 21-year-old native of Palermo, Sicily, in Italy, was the Titans’ captain and started 22 games in 2016. He scored two goals and had three assists in his junior season. He has three goals and five assists in his career for Cal State Fullerton, which went 10-9-4 last season.
D’Amato was also named a Big West Scholar-Athlete of the Year for Cal State Fullerton.
“This team is loaded with talent in central midfield, and Nico is one of those players who can help us dominate in that area,” Kitsap SC associate head coach Liviu Bird said. “He’s captain of his college team at Cal State Fullerton, so he’s got leadership ability to go along with his skill, and we’re excited to see what he can do at this level.”
Guerin, a 19-year-old freshman from Sam-NicoPaul, France, played 10 games for the Titans, totaling 24 saves. Cal State Fullerton went 4-6 in his starts, and he posted two clean sheets.
Prior to coming to Fullerton, Guerin notched two starts for Gazelec Ajaccio of Ligue 1 in France.
“Paulo is a young goalkeeper with a lot more experience than his age would indicate,” Bird said. “He’s technical, smart and a great competitor who we expect to do very well in our environment.”
Training sessions for Kitsap Soccer Club are set to begin on May 1, and the regular-season opener against Spokane Shadow is scheduled for May 20 at Gordon Field at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds in Bremerton.
