Kitsap SC announces signings of trial standouts Boakye, Hamaguchi, Iida

Kitsap Soccer Club announced the signings of right back Nana Koakye, left wing/fullback Kazushiro Hamaguchi and attacking midfielder Kodai Iida for the 2017 National Premier Soccer League season.

All three players earned a spot on the roster at Kitsap SC’s offseason tryouts.

Boakye, a 20-year-old of Ghanian descent born in England, came up in the West Ham United academy in East London and eventually signed with Barnsley, then in League One. He played four matches for Barnsley in 2014-15.

“Nana is the lone signee from our open tryout this year,” said associate head coach Liviu Bird. “He came up from Colorado to play in front of us, and we invited him back when he was the best player on the day to see him against higher-level opposition. He stepped his game up again, and so it only felt right that we give him a chance to continue impressing us on an everyday basis this summer.”

Hamaguchi, 24, played for Dallas City FC in the National Premier Soccer League last season.

“Kazu came to our invitational tryout, and he impressed us with his ability to play multiple positions and his professional attitude,” Bird said. “He also has experience playing in the NPSL, so we’re excited to bring him into our environment this summer.”

Iida, 22, previously played for Yamanashi Gakuin University in Kofu, Japan.

“Kodai is new to the U.S., and he came to our invitational tryout this winter,” Bird said. “We were impressed with his ability on the ball and the intelligence of the runs that he makes. This club has a long tradition of taking in international players, and we’re happy to welcome Kodai this summer.”
