Three Things To Know: South Sound FC

Here are three things to know about Kitsap Soccer Club’s opponent in its upcoming friendly on Wednesday night, South Sound FC of Puyallup:

1, South Sound FC – or WPSS Shock or just the Shock, if you prefer – is off to a flying start in the Evergreen Premier League, winning their first two games this season to go top of the table with six points and games in hand over chasers Seattle Stars and Bellingham United. That six points includes a 5-1 blowout over the Stars in the Shock’s EPLWA season debut.

On Saturday, South Sound grabbed a historic triumph with a 1-0 victory over Spokane Shadow 2, their first victory over the Spokane side. (If that name sounds familiar, Kitsap SC squares off against its parent club, Spokane Shadow, on Saturday.)

2, South Sound’s leading scorer so far is captain Micah Wenzel, who found the net twice in the season-opening victory over Seattle Stars. Wenzel also assisted on Branden Madsen’s goal this week in the victory over Spokane Shadow 2.

3, Kitsap SC has a 1-0-1 record against South Sound FC, since the latter joined the EPLWA in 2014. Kitsap defeated South Sound 3-1 in a preseason match last season, with two of the goals coming from current Kitsap midfielder Jesus “Chuy” Sanchez.

Kitsap SC meets South Sound FC on Wednesday night in its second of two preseason friendlies of the 2017 season at Bremerton’s Gordon Field at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 and season-ticket holders get in free.
