SPOKANE – Goalkeeper Paul-Andre Guerin posted the first clean sheet of the season for Kitsap SC, and it lifted the team to a 1-0 victory over Spokane SC Shadow on Saturday night. The victory pushed Kitsap to an NPSL Northwest Division-leading 11 points as it began the second half of the regular season.
Jorge Ruiz scored just before halftime, and that would prove to be enough. The goal was the second of the season for Ruiz, which tied University of San Francisco teammate Sean Bowman for Kitsap’s team lead.
The victory also preserved Kitsap’s perfect away record with nine points in three games away from Bremerton’s Gordon Field.
Kitsap had an opportunity to add to its tally, but missed a penalty in the second half.
The victory gives Kitsap SC 11 points on the season, the leading figure in the NPSL Northwest Division. PDX FC (10) and FCM Portland (nine) are both chasing, and each has a game in hand.
Kitsap SC will continue its second-half push on Wednesday night, facing OSA FC at Starfire Sports in Tukwila. OSA FC is the only team to have defeated Kitsap this season. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
