The Kitsap Pumas announced the signings of midfielders Jacob Arrieta and Ronaldo Lomeli for the 2018 National Premier Soccer League season.
Most recently, Arrieta played for 1. FC 04 Darmstadt in the lower-tier German Gruppenliga, where he notched four goals in 13 appearances in 2017.
Arrieta, a native of Highland, Calif., made 62 appearances with 48 starts during his college career at UC Riverside, where he played with former Kitsap midfielder Romario Lomeli.
Arrieta had a goal and an assist during his senior season in 2016.
“Jacob comes to us with some great recent experience in the lower leagues in Germany after a solid Division I college career,” Pumas head coach Liviu Bird said. “He’ll step into a leadership role right away for our other players who are yearning for a chance at the professional level, and he’ll be important both on the field and in terms of establishing the right culture in training and away from Gordon Field.”
Ronaldo Lomeli, the younger brother of Romario, has appeared in 16 matches in two seasons for San Jose State. At the club level, the Los Angeles native played for PC Golden State of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy.
“Ronaldo’s older brother, Romario, was one of our most important players last year,” Bird said. “It’ll be interesting to see what the younger Lomeli can do for us as well, as he’s got a couple years less experience but plays a similar position and tries to do it in a similar way.”
The Pumas’ season kicks off with the start of training at Gordon Field on April 30.
