The Kitsap Pumas announced the signing of goalkeepers Marc Girones and Nedin Kudic for the 2018 National Premier Soccer League season.
Both keepers are players who head coach Liviu Bird has previously thought about bringing to Kitsap. But both players will be brought into the Pumas’ fold for the forthcoming campaign.
Girones, a 22-year-old who hails from Barcelona, Spain, just finished his junior season at the University of Providence in Montana, where he started 14 of 15 games for the Argonauts and notched three clean sheets.
Girones was a second-team all-CCC selection as a sophomore for Providence in 2016 and an honorable mention all-CCC pick as a freshman in 2015. He’s made 41 starts in three seasons for the NAIA school.
“Marc came to our tryouts a couple years ago when we were still a professional side and I was the goalkeeper coach here,” Pumas head coach Liviu Bird said. “I remembered being impressed with what he had to offer, but he couldn’t sign with us because he would have given up his college eligibility. Now, we can bring him in, and we’re happy he’s decided to join us this summer.”
Kudic, 20, just finished his sophomore season at Jefferson College, a junior college in Hillsboro, Miss. He made 12 appearances with nine starts for the Vikings in 2017, posting two clean sheets.
“We wanted to sign Ned last year, but he had to stay at school over the summer, so we’re excited to finally get a chance to get him out to Bremerton,” Bird said. “He’s a goalkeeper with a lot of training experience with professional sides, so what he’ll be looking to get from us is a continuation of that as well as a chance to earn himself some time in competitive matches.”
Kitsap kicks off its 2018 campaign with its first training session on April 30 and will play its first competitive game of the season on May 8 in the U.S. Open Cup at Portland Timbers U23.
