Puma re-signs for 2010

The 2009 defending Northwest Division Champion Kitsap Pumas today announced that it has re-signed forward Tony Kerr to a contract for the 2010 season.

“Tony is a class guy in every respect and represents our club fantastically well. Most important is the fact that he’s a great player, a complete player,” said executive director Ben Pecora. “We are pleased to have Tony in the fold as we move rapidly forward toward 2010.”

“It is a proud moment. I’m delighted to know that I’m going to be a part of such a great organization as it continues to grow and there is no other club I wish to be playing with at this stage of my career. I expect big things next year for us,” said Kerr.

Kerr, who scored the club’s first-ever regular-season goal earlier this year at Spokane now becomes the first-ever Pumas player to
renew his contract.

                                                        Pumas Re-Sign Gordley

Bremerton, Wash. – The Kitsap Pumas today exercised its club option on forward Eli Gordley. The fleet 21-year-old becomes the eighth player added to the team’s Master Roster for 2010.

Joining the Federal Way, Wash. native on the roster are defenders Mark Lee and Stephen Mohn; midfielders Aziz Dieng and Matt Friesen, and forwards Zack Sampson and Tony Kerr.

Gordley had a solid season with the Pumas but was also plagued by injury for the latter half of the year, limiting his time and effectiveness.

Over the 2007-08 European season, and prior to joining the Laredo Heat last pre-season, Gordley played for the Belgian  Fourth-Division side Royal Racing Montegenee.

“This is a big opportunity to do something big,” said Gordley, expected to fight for a starting position when Pumas training camp opens this winter. “I’m looking to put up more goals next season – I was nowhere near where I thought I should have been last year.”

Pumas renew option on defenders

Mark Lee and Stephen Mohn

Bremerton, Wash. – The 2009 defending Northwest Division champion Kitsap Pumas today exercised club contract options on defenders Mark Lee and Stephen Mohn.

Both players return to a Pumas squad which last season saw the club lose only a single regular-season match in the franchise’s first year of operation.

Mohn was the first player ever signed by the club and Lee (along with goalkeeper Dustyn Brim) is the first Puma player to ever be named to the all-league team (2009 season). Lee started every match played by the team, including friendlies, Open Cup and playoffs this past year, leading the team in minutes played (1340 total.)

Asked to express his feelings about signing his second professional contract with the club, Mohn said that he is “excited to be back,”

“I’m really looking forward to next season - hopefully it will be even better than this past season,” said Mohn. “I’m really looking forward to seeing the guys.”

“I’m a Puma at heart and this organization is definitely going in the right direction. You can see that from next year’s training schedule, to our fan base, to the core of players we have,” said Lee. “As with Steve, I’m excited and can’t wait to get started – there are multitude of tasks to undertake this off-season to achieve our common goal of bringing Kitsap a championship.”

“We’re glad to have them back, they are excellent players and people,” said owner Robin Waite.

The tandem anchored what was arguably the best league defense last year, as Kitsap allowed only 13 regular-season goals and racked up seven shutouts.

2009 marked each of the players’ third PDL season.

Pumas Take Options On Three Players

Bremerton, Wash. – The 2009 defending Northwest Division Champion Kitsap Pumas today announced that it has exercised the club option on midfielders Matt Friesen and Aziz Dieng and forward Zack Sampson.

“We’re solidifying the nucleus of what was a very good team last season,” said owner Robin Waite. “This has been our top priority since the season ended.”
