BREMERTON, Wash. — The Kitsap Pumas take on South Sound FC at Gordon Field in the club’s second preseason match on Wednesday, at 7 p.m. PT. South Sound, who recently won the National U23 USASA Championship, finished second in the Evergreen Premier League in 2015.
Last weekend, the Pumas defeated Seattle Stars FC, 5-1, in the team’s 2016 preseason opener.
Newly signed Pumas forward Mikhail Doholis assisted on three of the five goals, wasting no time to prove he’s the same dominant player the PAC-12 saw in recent years. All five Pumas goals were scored by trialists as head coach Cameron MacDonald continues to run the rule over potential signings.
The club boasted an impressive attendance of 240 in the preseason debut at Gordon Field on Friday.
As for the opposition, South Sound FC will be playing its first outdoor game of 2016. Many squad members were able to continue competitive action throughout the winter as members of the Tacoma Stars Reserve side that finished fourth in the Western Indoor Soccer League.
Last season, South Sound finished second in the EPLWA with an 8-1-5 (29 points) record. Two players co-led the team with five goals in EPLWA play last season. Both of them are back and should expect to feature in Wednesday’s match: Tyler John and Vince McCluskey.
South Sound FC is led by head coach Adam Becker. Prior to joining South Sound, Becker, a Tacoma native, served as the assistant women’s coach at Tacoma Community College as well as head varsity coach at Stadium High School.
This spring, South Sound FC and Washington Premier FC announced a new relationship to increase playing opportunities and create stronger bonds between the youth and adult high-level game.
After Wednesday night’s match, the Kitsap Pumas will hit the road on Saturday against Western Washington University at Bainbridge High School. Kickoff will be at 2:30 p.m. PT.
