Match Preview: Pumas travel to face Seattle Sounders U23 in vital league match

BREMERTON, Wash. — The Kitsap Pumas shift back to league play after a short break to compete in the Fourth Round of the 2016 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup against the Seattle Sounders. The Pumas look to get back on track in PDL play as the Sounders U23 are currently sitting in third place in the PDL Northwest Division.

The game comes exactly 48 hours after the Pumas’ previous kickoff, when they gave the MLS incarnation of the Sounders a run for their money despite losing, 2-0. The Pumas were the last Open Division team remaining in the tournament, winning $15,000 in the process.

Two Pumas wins this season came against the same Sounders U23 squad on May 18, in the Second Round of the Open Cup, and May 28, both by scores of 1-0. In fact, the last four meetings between these two teams have finished with Kitsap on top by a solitary goal.

This time, it will be an away game for the Pumas, who have not been back to Gordon Field since June 5 and will not see another home game until June 29.

In terms of PDL play, the Pumas are coming off a 2-1 victory against the Portland Timbers U23 on June 10, and the Sounders U23’s most recent game was a 4-1 loss at second-place Lane United on June 12.
